STATEMENT

Felipe Lavín is a Chilean photographer and artist, born in the capital, Santiago, in 1987. Upon graduating from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile’s Construction Engineering School, he started venturing into the art world by participating in several photography courses and workshops. During a student exchange to Canada in 2010 he attended digital photography classes at the University of Montreal, where he deepened his interest in urban and architectural image. His self-taught practice has been developing since, ensuring his participation in a number of solo and group exhibitions globally.

"My work is based in photomontages and digital photography inspired on urban architecture, lines, perspectives and geometry. I am profoundly attracted to symmetry, especially when it manifests naturally within the city and relates to its surroundings. In my work I try to change the observer’s perception on daily locations, both highlighting and decontextualizing them to create new objects and elements. I mainly focus on buildings that form part of the urban environment and that have become transparent and monotonous with time.

Currently my work incorporates photographic practices, photomontages and videos where I stresses the relationship between the human singularity with the architectural landscape, whether urban or rural, questioning the lifestyle of the contemporary human beings and his environment."

FELIPE LAVIN

Felipe Lavín, fotógrafo y artista chileno nacido en Santiago en 1987. Estudió Construcción Civil en la Universidad Católica de Chile y realizó talleres y cursos de fotografía en la misma universidad. Durante un intercambio en Canadá en el año 2010, estudió fotografía digital en la Universidad de Montreal donde profundizó su interés por las imágenes urbanas y de arquitectura.

"Mi obra se basa en fotomontajes y fotografías digitales inspiradas en la arquitectura urbana, en las líneas, perspectivas y geometría. La simetría es un elemento que me atrae mucho, sobre todo cuando se manifiesta naturalmente en la ciudad y se relaciona con su entorno. En mi trabajo intento cambiar la percepción del espectador frente a lugares cotidianos, destacándolos y descontextualizándolos al mismo tiempo para poder crear nuevos objetos y elementos. Mayoritariamente son edificios que forman parte del entorno urbano los cuales con el paso del tiempo se han convertido en un paisaje transparente y monótono. Otras veces son paisajes o lugares alejados de la urbe.

Actualmente mi trabajo abarca prácticas fotográficas, fotomontajes y videos donde tensiono la relación entre la singularidad humana con el paisaje arquitectónico ya sea urbano o rural, cuestionando así el estilo de vida del hombre contemporáneo y su entorno".
